Gotion LiFePO4 Battery Cells: Cylindrical & Prismatic
Compare five Gotion High-tech (Guoxuan) LFP cell models for battery PACK projects: two cylindrical formats and three prismatic formats. Open each model for electrical limits, mechanical drawings and specification notes.
How to read the Gotion model code
IFR is the cylindrical LFP family and IFP the prismatic one; the digits that follow are the can or case dimensions. IFR32135 is a 32 mm by 135 mm can, IFP50160116A a 50 by 160 by 116 mm case. That decode is the fastest way to rule a model out: a pack with a fixed-height enclosure is decided by the format line before any electrical figure is read.
Cylindrical or prismatic
- Cylindrical (IFR32135, IFR37146) – 15 and 20 Ah. Standard metal cans, mature welding and holder tooling, and the practical choice where the pack is built from many small cells and the enclosure can be shaped around them.
- Prismatic (IFP42100140A, IFP28148115A, IFP50160116A) – 52 to 102 Ah. Fewer parts per kilowatt-hour, busbar and compression design become the engineering work, and the larger case suits a pack built as a stack rather than a matrix.
The capacities also set how many connections a pack needs. Five 102 Ah cells reach roughly the same energy as thirty-four 15 Ah cells, with a corresponding difference in welding, sensing and balancing count – which is where the cost of a low-capacity cylindrical design shows up.
Compare the test condition, not the cycle number
The cycle figures in the table are not interchangeable. The 3,000-cycle rating on the 102 Ah model is measured to 70% capacity retention; the 2,000 and 2,500-cycle ratings on the others are to 80%. A 70% endpoint is an easier test, so the larger number does not mean a longer-lived cell. Temperature, charge and discharge rates, depth of discharge and the mechanical preload printed for each model are part of the rating, and a pack that changes any of them is no longer being described by that figure.
Cell selection is only half the specification. The BMS has to be matched to the format and the current profile, and the cell specification guide covers the eight figures that actually constrain a design.
Gotion LiFePO4 Cell Selection
| Model | Format | Capacity and test rate | Cycle-life reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| IFR32135-15Ah | Cylindrical | ≥15 Ah at 1C; ≥15.8 Ah at 0.33C | 2,000 cycles in §5.4.1; 25°C, 0.5C charge / 1C discharge |
| IFR37146-20Ah | Cylindrical | 20 Ah | 1,200 cycles to 80% capacity at 25°C; Appendix A.1 charge; discharge rate requires confirmation |
| IFP42100140A-67Ah | Prismatic | 67 Ah | 2,500 cycles to 80% capacity; 25 ±2°C, 67 A staged charge / 67 A discharge, 100% DOD, 150 ±50 kgf preload |
| IFP28148115A-52Ah | Prismatic | 52 Ah at 1C; 52.5 Ah at 0.33C | 2,500 cycles to 80% capacity at 25°C; §2.2.2 staged charging, 1C discharge to 2.5 V |
| IFP50160116A-102Ah | Prismatic | 102 Ah | 3,000 cycles to 70% capacity; room-temperature row specifies 25°C in Chinese, 50 A charge/discharge, 150 ±20 kgf preload |
Compare Test Conditions, Not Only Cycle Counts
Cycle figures apply to each model’s stated temperature, charge/discharge profile, depth of discharge, mechanical restraint and capacity-retention endpoint. The 102 Ah specification uses a 70% capacity endpoint; other ratings and unresolved source inconsistencies are explained on each product page.
Cell warranty coverage and duration vary by brand, model and supply batch. Applicable terms will be specified in the quotation or sales contract before order confirmation. Manufacturer warranty coverage, where applicable, is subject to the manufacturer’s terms. Cycle life is a separate performance rating. The supplied specifications are reference documents; confirm the current revision and batch before purchasing or designing a PACK.
